Hungary
Surface: 93030 km2
Number of Provinces: 20
Inhabitants: cca. 10 Million
Hungary's North-South size is 220 km, East-West size is 520 km. Hungary is
neighbouring 7 countries - these are: Austria (A), Slovakia (SK), Ukraine (UA), Rumania (RO), Serbia (SR),
Croatia (HR) and Slovenia (SLO). The total length of Hungary's borders is 2242 km.
Hungary is a rather low situated country. The lowest point of the country (76 m above sea level) is south of
Szeged in South Hungary, while it's highest point (only 1014 m above sea level) is "Kékestető" in the Mátra
mountain in the Northern Hills approximately 90 km north-east from Budapest. This is because Hungary stretches
in the Carpatian basin.
Budapest
Surface: 525 km2 (Pest 173 km2, Buda 352 km2)
Number of districts: 23
Inhabitants: rund 2 Million
Budapest is cut on 28 km length by the river Danube. The city's esthetical beauty is provided by
the harmony of hilly Buda side, the flat Pest side and the Danube cutting through and yet binding the two
geographical territories. At the moment there are only 7 bridges leaning over the river. Unfortunately this is
not enough - you will see in rush hour traffic. Constructing new bridges was always planned, yet we will have to
wait at least until 2007 for a new one.
As Hungary, also Budapest is rich in heal-, and thermal fountains. Many people have found relief from pain and
relaxing wellness in these spas and baths.
